Prepping for a Safe and Stress-free Road Trip
ÂMany people are planning or have planned summer destinations. Amusements parks, weekend getaways, trips to the lake or beach, etc. A lot of people choose to drive to those destinations. If you're one of these people here are some things you can do to prep yourself and your vehicle for a stress-free road trip.
ÂCheck your vehicle - Things like making sure your oil is changed, air filters are clean, tires are properly inflated can help keep your car running smooth at any time. BUT did you know they can also help you get the most from your gas mileage? Check these things at least 2 weeks before your trip. You might also find issues you may not have noticed before and can get them fixed before your trip.
Clean Out Your Vehicle - A clean interior can make the trip more comfortable for you and anyone else in involved. If you have a lot of extra things from work or coaching your kid's team it will make some room too. If you have kids you might also get rid of some things that could cause an unpleasant smell in your car.
ÂCheck the Benefits of Your Insurance and/or Auto Club - If something does happen on the trip, it's good to know who to call and what they can do for you. Some insurances offer towing services, rental cars in case of repairs, etc. But not all. Some auto clubs also offer towing services, lock out services, tire change services, and even deliver gas. They may also be able to help you with trip planning or discount tickets for your destination.
ÂDo Prep Ahead of Time to Save Time and Stress the day of or during -Â You can fill your car up with gas the night before, pack your vehicle the night before, prep a small cooler with drinks and snacks for the trip, Print directions (you can do this a week or two in advance if you want to), gather the address to input into you GPS, etc. I recommend printing directions and using your GPS if you have one so if one fails you, you have a back up option.
ÂFinances - Finances are relevant. You can estimate expenses ahead of time including estimated expenses for gas, food, lodging, entertainment to make sure you're financially prepared for the trip. If you have to withdraw the money from your bank you may want to do so a week or 2 ahead of time. Remember that ATMs sometimes have a daily limit of how much you can withdraw per day or at a time.Â
