Chrysler, which also owns Jeep and Dodge, received approval from bankruptcy court to close 789 dealership franchises as part of its effort to get out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The post-Chrysler era will affect I.M. Jarrett & Son Inc., when the longtime Hatboro dealership closes its new car business. On May 14 Chrysler announced the names of the dealers whose franchises it planned to close. The reorganization effort impacted 25 percent of Chrysler dealerships. Cuts focused on underperforming locations, those housed in aging facilities and those that had to compete with other nearby Chrysler dealerships. They also hit dealerships that didn't carry all three major lines - Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep. When the announcement came last month, Jarrett's inventory numbered about 120 new Dodge vehicles. While the company will be unable to perform warranty work for new Chrysler vehicles, Jarrett said the shop would remain open for maintenance and state inspections.
